Wisconsin Has Angered God

And we're about to get punished.

The state hasn't even backed off from record flood levels and we're about to get 3+ inches of rain tonight. It appears that at least 3 dams are going to give way tonight at least.

Also, most of the interstates are being closed due to flooding, semis are being blown over by high winds and power is slowly turning off for thousands of residents.

I'm just waiting for some retarded Packer fan to blame this on Favre's retirement.

At any rate, wish us luck. We're going to need it.

P.S. Do you know why Bush hasn't visited the effected areas yet? He hates white people.

Update: Current reports show that each of three dams are currently expected to hold by county officials if the rain total is less than 3". That is, unfortunately, a big if. We're up to 19,000 without power.

Only about 6 hours of storms to go.

Update Part Deux: I was right, Fond du Lac is fucked:

County Executive Allen Buechel declared a State of Emergency for all of Fond du Lac County on Thursday evening. All citizens are asked to remain in their homes unless they need to evacuate.

Many streets and roads are impassable across the county. The County is urging residents to stay home unless they need to evacuate.

One resident said some sewers are gushing out like fountains in the city of Fond du Lac. The sewers backed up into many basements and many city roads are impassible due to flooding.

Those poor people have been under the red on the radar screen for five hours straight. It is going to be a rough morning for them. Unfortunately for points south, that water has to go somewhere and I have a suspicion it might be this way.

Obama Pulling Out of Wisconsin?

Unsubstantiated information from the Republican Party of Wisconsin:
After a series of puff articles over the weekend raving about Senator Barack Obama’s Wisconsin operation, it was discovered Obama actually doesn’t have any campaign offices in the state.

“Perhaps Democrats realize that the most liberal member of the United States Senate is no fit for Wisconsin voters and took their field offices back to Chicago,” said Mark Jefferson, Executive Director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. “This isn’t the first time the Obama campaign has sought to mislead folks in Wisconsin, and it no doubt won’t be the last.”

Phone numbers listed on the Obama website for Wisconsin campaign offices were discovered to be inoperable this week. Obama’s national campaign said there hasn’t been campaign offices since the state’s February primary and didn’t know when they would reopen.

According to Jefferson, Obama’s visit this week could be to mask his anemic state operation or it might be a farewell visit to the Badger State.

“It will take more than overblown pep rallies to convince Wisconsin voters that Barack Obama shares their values,” Jefferson said. “John McCain has a history of independent leadership that appeals to Wisconsin. Senator Obama has never put partisan interests aside to bring about progress. Maybe that’s why Democrats have to exaggerate their campaign operations.”

Very interesting.

Lake Delton Is No More

Unfortunately, this isn't remotely the worst of the damage in the midwest. Waukesha (where I live now) has an overflowing damn and nearly every road through town is closed.

Fucked up.

Oh, and on a side note, I am posting much more at doubleplusundead than I am here.

Check it out!

Man, I love thunderstorms!

Wisconsin Drivers

Yeah, the weather is shitty and so was my commute.

Hint: Water doesn't make your car stop driving.

The Hoodlums on the Bus Go Pound and Pound

Shortly after hearing that bus drivers in Milwaukee sometimes make in excess of $100,000 per year, we get some evidence that they may deserve it:
Officials in Milwaukee, Wisconsin are looking for a man accused of attacking a city bus driver during his route and the beating is caught on tape.

The surveillance video was released on Thursday.

In the video, you can see a man running onto the bus and yelling like a madman. He punched the stunned driver and even tried to pull him out of his seat. And this all took place while the bus was moving.

The bus drivers union says operators deal with a lot. "This is one of the most severe assaults I've seen," said a union representative.

Watch the video: it is brutal

This is just more evidence that Milwaukee is rapidly declining into a Detroit-style ghetto in some places while the government nears the apex of incompetence and corruption.  Awesome combo.

They Can't Protect You

They can only come along behind and pick up the pieces. Next time you think you don't need to be able to defend yourself, remember Brittany Zimmerman:

A 911 call from a murdered college student's cell phone featured sounds that should have been significant to a 911 operator, but they were not heard by the dispatcher during the call, Dane County's top official said Tuesday.

County Executive Kathleen Falk apologized for errors in how the call was managed, but said even if it had been handled correctly, it probably would not have saved Brittany Sue Zimmermann's life on April 2.

"From what I know, I do not believe that had the errors not occurred in the 911 center, that her murder could have been prevented," she said.

Hey, fuck you, bitch. Add this to the list of a billion reasons I can't fucking stand government employees. Can you imagine a more callous response to someone dying by your mistake than "well, it wouldn't have saved her anyway."

That's not the fucking point and we pay her salary to know that. Maybe she should, just a little, like... I don't know... care what happens to the citizens she is responsible for protecting. Her department fucked up and a young person is dead.

Fucking own it, you piece of shit.

I'm buying another gun.

Outbreak Continues

As the father of a 12-week-old, I have to say this is getting pretty disturbing:
We learned late Tuesday afternoon there are three new probable cases of measles in southeast Wisconsin. That's in addition to the four cases already confirmed.

There's also now a case of rubella in Waukesha County. Rubella is also known as "German measles,” and it's something we haven't seen here since the 1990s.

The measles outbreak now covers Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine and Walworth counties.

In Racine, a local doctor tested a 5th grade boy for measles and it came back positive. Officially, this is considered a probable case. Racine officials rushed a sample to the state health lab where they're working on confirming the measles.

I'm soon moving to Waukesha and we were going to enroll Lucia in the daycare in which these outbreaks started. Let's just say this is hitting a little too close to home.

One wonders, could it have anything to do with this? I'm not aware of a significant, direct illegal immigration problem in Southeastern Wisconsin but it seems very likely that unvaccinated individuals are responsible as the measles/rubella vaccine is incredibly effective unless some untreated jackoff brings it back:
Of the 66 cases of measles reported in the U.S. in 2005, slightly over half were attributable to one unvaccinated individual who acquired measles during a visit to Romania. This individual returned to a community with many unvaccinated children. The resulting outbreak infected 34 people, mostly children and virtually all unvaccinated; 9% were hospitalized, and the cost of containing the outbreak was estimated at $167,685. A major epidemic was averted due to high rates of vaccination in the surrounding communities.

As you all know, I'm not one for the government mandating behavior in citizens but the topic of vaccination is a strong exception. If you have a religious or other strong objection to vaccinations, then you should not be allowed to live among us. We have done the responsible thing and protected our children from needless, terrible diseases that should be a thing of past. If you want your kids to be retarded because of measles, that's fine. Just keep them the fuck away from my daughter.

Moron of the Day: Wrong Turn at Albuquerque

Apparently smuggling humans accross one border wasn't enough for this Coyote. He was going for the twofer:
A Kenosha County Sheriff's Department report says the driver and three passengers were in the cab of the pickup and four others were covered by blankets in the bed of the truck, which had Arizona license plates.

The passengers told the deputy when stopped on Interstate 94 Sunday that they believed they were "going to Wisconsin for a fiesta."

Deputies found soda cans and food along with pillows and blankets in the truck's cargo area where four men had been riding.

Going to Wisconsin for a fiesta? What the fuck? Summerfest isn't for another couple of months.

I think this guy just got lost and started talking about the Wisconsin fiesta after he saw the "Welcome to Wisconsin" signs. "Si, guys, we goeen to Weesconeseen for una fiesta, no?"

No.

Wisconsin: German for Hell On Earth

Well, if it had frozen over:
Hundreds of motorists were stranded in a massive traffic pileup on Thursday, and classes were canceled for thousands of students as the Midwest dug out from a major snowstorm.

In Wisconsin, traffic backed up for 19 miles south of Madison on Wednesday after semitrailer trucks got stuck on a hill. Gov. Jim Doyle later called a state of emergency, sending National Guard troops to help vehicles stuck in the jam blocking Interstate 90. Snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles were used to check on the stranded motorists and bring them food or fuel.

As many as 800 vehicles remained stranded Thursday morning, according to Wisconsin National Guard Lt. Col. Tim Donovan.

The highway I live on was a washboard of packed ice attempting desperately to shake my teeth free. Cars in my apartment parking lot were up to their hoods in drifs and over a half inch of ice coated my windshield.

But the best line from the stranded cars south of Madison?
"In some cases, the drivers seemed to have given up and gone to sleep," said Donovan, who assessed the backup from a helicopter.

That's how I'm starting to feel about this winter business in general. Maybe the bears have it right.

What Did They Do to Us?

Miller must hate Australians because they're going to start exporting Chill:
Miller Brewing Co.'s Latin-inspired brew is heading to Australia, marking the new beer's first entry into a market outside the U.S.

Miller Chill has done so well domestically since its release earlier this year that the company decided to export it to Australia, spokesman Julian Green said Monday.

The beer brewed with hints of lime and salt is part of the Milwaukee-based brewer's effort to promote premium brands as domestic sales of mainstream brews like Miller Genuine Draft slip.

Lime and salt. I lament the fact that they can't export all of that piss. We need more room on shelves in Wisconsin for real beer.

Welcome Boots and Sabers Readers

I am honored to find myself on the Wisconsin blogroll at Boots and Sabers. I have been a big fan of Owen and Jed for years now and was lucky enough to be linked by them in my previous blog incarnations.

I must warn any visitors, that the name is not ironic or cute. It is dead-on accurate so be careful wandering around. It may be contageous.

If you were looking for something interesting to read, here is one of my more readable recent posts.

Now all I need to do is get out of Waukesha (place of business) enough to write some good blog posts.

Also, stay tuned for Moron Pundit's EPIC 100th Post!

Update: I only hope I handle my ridiculous new popularity more smoothly than the Kenosha News:

Stay classy, Kenosha!

Of course, we all know that Kenosha is Italian for...

It Was Worth a Shot

Damn you Governor Doyle!!!
Wisconsinites can forget about getting free shots of liquor at their local grocery store.

Gov. Jim Doyle vetoed that provision of the new state budget Friday before signing the new two-year spending plan at a ceremony at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's student union.

A provision slipped into the budget at the last minute would have allowed up to 1.5 ounces of liquor to be handed out for free.

"To me, it's absurd that you walk into a grocery store and start taking shots," Doyle said.

Fascist!

Honestly, only in Wisconsin would this law even be contemplated. The funny thing is I can see people going from store to store getting sloshed with free samples. That would have been awesome but because of Doyle, the dream is dead.
